Hello, I am Mencia Lopez and I am a media student. This means I am learning to analyze films and explore the connotations of the different elements that form a film. This year my project is to create the opening of a film. I will learn how to use mise en scene, camera, sound, and editing effectively to produce a successful opening film. I will be exploring and experimenting with different techniques in order to develop new skills including researching, planning, and selecting the genre. The whole process will be shown on this website, where I will upload my progress. Last year I studies media studies at IGCSE, therefore I already have some knowledge that I can apply to create a powerful film opening.

Preliminary task
This is a preliminary task I did at the start of the year. I worked with Leting in order to produce this opening film. By producing this piece before my coursework, I learned how to use editing websites and how to use a camera, sound, and mise en scene to create a final product. I was not very happy with the end result, therefore next time I will try to use a better quality camera as I used my phone to take the shots, include a wider variety of shot types, and better sound effects. This film opening helped me remind certain ideas and skills I learned in IGCSE media. By doing this preliminary task, now I feel confident to produce my psychological thriller opening film.
