2) How does your product engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

FOCUS GROUP:

TARGET AUDIENCE:

The demographics for my media product are both female and male teenagers between 15-25 who have an interest in psychological thriller or horror movies. My film opening is aimed at late teens because it is an intellectually demanding film which includes themes that may not be understood by younger viewers. It is targeted at individuals that have an interest in the supernatural and the horror that hides behind normality. It is aimed at a working/middle class community. This is because with a relatively cheap price you can obtain a high level of thrill and enjoyment from a psychological film. Uses of gratification theory can be applied to my film as it allows the audience to escape and relax from their daily life. The levis strauss theory also applies as I included common binary oppositions such as light vs dark and day vs night. The protagonists' 2 identities can be included in this theory as they represent good vs evil.  In terms of psychographics, the audience likes to socialise a lot, meaning they go and watch horror films with their friend to the cinema. This group enjoys spending time resolving enigmas and mysteries. They are also interested in mental illnesses and disorders. My film opening appeals to my target audience as it contains enigma codes and finishes with a cliffhanger. This builds suspense to convey a sense of urgency.
